This building was first established in 1911, and its first known occupant was Sergeant Muller of the local police who lived in this relatively large home with his family.
Alongside and on the southern side of Kasteelberg is the second oldest police station of Riebeek Kasteel, which was discontinued a number of years ago and is currently occupied by Beans About Coffee. Conveniently positioned next door to the Sergeant’s house, the old prison cells behind the police station can still be seen from the parking lot on the side of the building.

Following Sergeant Muller’s tenure at the house, the building was sold and used as a tavern with additional guest rooms in the loft space and at the back. Allan Barnard, a popular KFM radio presenter in the 90s, subsequently bought the property in 2002 and named it the Kasteelberg Country Inn & Bistro.
Although the building’s original shape and features of the facade remain, it was extensively renovated in 2023 to the Kasteelberg Place it is today; housing multiple shops and art galleries with self-catering lets in the loft.
